Let me start by saying, if you can’t handle your liquor, don’t order a cocktail at Knight’s. But, with that being said, if you can handle your liquor, Knight's will give you the best bang for your buck.

Knight’s is somewhat of an establishment in Ann Arbor, located off East Liberty and just a stone’s throw from Skeeps. The food is great, the drinks are strong, and the place is always packed. Whether you’re walking by on a Saturday night in the summer or a Tuesday night in a blizzard, it’s always hopping with crowded tables and a busy bar.

Pear Martini

My friends and I got there early for some pre-dinner drinks on a Saturday, sitting down before 5 p.m., which is something of a sin in my family where 8 p.m. is considered an early dinner. The place was empty at first, but by the time we left, there wasn’t an empty table in the place.

Knight’s has a reputation for making some of the best cocktails in Ann Arbor, which they certainly lived up to. However, they are also probably the strongest cocktails in Ann Arbor. I ordered the Pear Martini ($12), which seemed like it was one part pear and three parts vodka. The sangria was sweet and refreshing, while the taste of the red wine remained top of mind (or tongue, in this case). The “Knight’s 75,” a gin cocktail made with lavender simple syrup took home my heart, although my heart had to take a cab because there was no chance of driving after this.

Next, we moved on to food. We ordered a meat and cheese board ($16) to share and what it lacked in cheese variety, it made up for with rich slices of prosciutto and marcona almonds. For dinner I got one of the night’s specialty appetizers, three tacos with fried redfish, which was phenomenal and filling at only $12. However, across the table, my friend had my mouth watering over his filet mignon sliders, despite the fact he ordered them at a ghastly “medium” temperature. I have long sworn not to associate with anyone who orders their steak above medium rare, but I guess the extra vodka in my martini helped his case.

Knight’s also has a fantastic happy hour from 3-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, with $5 mixed well drinks, $6 sangria, $6 glasses of house wine, $6 glasses of Vinho Verde Rosé, $7 glasses of cava, and $2 pints of Labatt Blue or Miller Lite. Just make sure to sit at either the bar or high top tables for these awesome deals!
